HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 2016-020RESOLUTION NO. 2016-020 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN THE MAY 7, 2016 GENERAL CITY ELECTION ELECTED TO OFFICE; CANCELING THE ELECTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, on February 2, 2016, the General City Election was called for May 7, 2016 for the purpose of electing City Council members to Place 3 and Place 4; and WHEREAS, in accordance with the Texas Election Code, the City Secretary has certified in writing that no person has made a declaration of write-in candidacy, and that each candidate on the ballot is unopposed for election to office; and WHEREAS, under these circumstances, Subchapter C, Chapter 2, Texas Election Code, authorizes the City Council to declare the candidates elected to office and cancel the election; WHEREAS, all constitutional and statutory prerequisites for the approval of this resolution have been met, including but not limited to the Open Meetings Act; and WHEREAS, the City Council deems the adoption of this resolution to be in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated hereinabove are found to be true and correct and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. The following candidates, who are unopposed in the May 7, 2016 General City Election, are declared elected to office, and shall be issued certificates of election following the time the election would have been canvassed: City Council, Place 3 — Mike Lease City Council, Place 4 — Darlene Freed Section 3. The May 7, 2016 General City Election is canceled, and the City Secretary is directed to cause a copy of the Order of Cancellation to be posted during the early voting period and on election day at the designated polling place for the May 7, 2016 General Election being The REC of Grapevine, 1175 Municipal Way, Grapevine, Texas. Section 4. That this resolution shall be effective from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 1 st day of March, 2016.
