SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF BID 392-2012 FOR THE PURCHASE OF
AGGREGATE MATERIALS ON AN AS-NEEDED BASIS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the award of Bid 392-2012 for an annual contract
with optional renewals for the purchase of aggregate materials to Neese Materials, Inc.,
Lowery Sand & Gravel Company, Inc., TXI, Big Sandy Sand Company, Hanson
Aggregates LLC and DFW Materials primarily for the Public Works Department, Parks
and Recreation Department, City Golf Course and other various departments as-
needed.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in various departmental accounts including 100-42205-312-3, 116-
43301-535-1, 121-48899-312-12-000018, 173-48899-0003, 178-78102-013, 210-42205-
340-2, 210-43301-340-2 and 174-43301-090-000 for an estimated annual expenditure of
$439,000.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted July
19 and 26, 2012. The bid was opened publicly on August 10, 2012.
Through the City E-Bid system, 383 vendors were invited to bid with 10 other uninvited
vendors viewing the bid due to bid advertisement or City Purchasing website bid notice.
There were six bids submitted. (See attached bid tabulation). The purpose of this bid is
to establish annual fixed pricing for aggregate materials on an as-needed basis.
Staff recommends approval.
