HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 18 - Pickup Truck Donation MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: SEPTEMBER 4, 2012 SUBJECT: DONATION OF A PICKUP TRUCK TO GRAPEVINE SISTER CITY— PARRAS de la FUENTE RECOMMENDATION: City Council consider adopting an resolution declaring a 1999 Ford F-250 Pickup Truck surplus and authorizing the donation of said pickup truck to Grapevine's Sister City, Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico, authorize the City Manager to execute the necessary documents for this donation, and take any necessary action. BACKGROUND: During Councilwoman Spencer's recent trip to Parras de la Fuentes, she was advised of the local fire department's need for a pickup truck. Councilwoman Spencer asked staff if we had a pickup truck scheduled for replacement that was in working order and could be conveyed to our Sister City., Public Works Department has a 1999 F-250 Ford pickup truck, Unit 30129, that will be replaced in the next few weeks with a new unit under the FY 2012 Budget. The pickup truck being replaced is a good candidate to fill this need. Staff recommends approval. RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTY SURPLUS AND/OR SALVAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE DONATION OF SAID PROPERTY TO PARRAS DE LA FUENTE, COAHUILA, MEXICO; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it has been determined that the City of Grapevine is in possession of surplus and/or salvage property-in particular unit 30129 Water Treatment Plant Ford F-250 pickup truck (the "Unit"); and WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine has a lengthy history of cooperation and mutual assistance with its sister city, Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico; and WHEREAS, the Unit would be of use to Parras de la Fuente; and WHEREAS, -the City Council deems the adoption of this Resolution in the best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public. NOW,THEREFORE, BE II'T RESOLVED BYTHE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. 'That the Unit is declared surplus and is donated to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to execute all associated paperwork to complete the conveyance of the Unit, and to make the Unit available to Parras de la Fuente, Coahuila, Mexico. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage.
