MINUTES
The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Board of Directors met on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at the
Hyatt Regency DFW, Grapevine, Texas with the following persons in attendance:

CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Bigbie called the meeting to order and thanked everyone that, under extreme weather conditions, was
able to make the meeting.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion to approve the minutes from the October 19, 2000 and November 21, 2000 Board Meetings was made
by Steve Trent and seconded by Bill Brink. Motion carried.
SALES AND MARKETING REPORT
Mr.Kakos gave a recap of the past year. Convention Center produced 659 events. The center was in use on 307
days and brought in over$450,000 in revenue. Communications had$1,193,000 in print media and$854,000 in
electronic media coverage for a total of over$2,000,000. The Visitor Center assisted 159,555 visitors with 4,481
volunteer hours. Conventions serviced had an economic impact of over$18,000,000 and represented over 34,000
delegates. Brochures distributed totaled over 787,000. There were 220 group leads produced with over$12,000,000
in potential room revenue. Booked business had an economic impact of over$4,000,000. Advertising generated
over 7,000 requests for information. There were 669,294 hits on our web site.

OLD BUSINESS
Tarantula Train Update
Mr. McCallum reported that the Tarantula Train to date in December has had 4,439 total passengers; 3,210
(1111, children, 459 adults, 255 teachers and one charter run with 185 people. The rebuild on Steam Engine 2248 will
begin after the first of the year. Weekend runs and special runs will be with diesel only in January through
March.
AWARDS
(610 Employee of the Year
Mr. McCallum presented the Employee of the Year Award to Bartholomeus Raaphorst. Born in the Netherlands,
Bart started with the bureau in June of 1999. He is a willing worker and has helped to develop the airline
network and has worked extensively with the Sister City program. Bart is fluent in English, German, French and
Dutch.
Joey Wilkins Award
Mr. McCallum introduced a new award developed this year; the Joey Wilkins "Can Do" Achievement Award.
Joey's continued good spirit and "can do" attitude inspired this award. She was recognized as the first recipient
of this award and presented with a plaque.

There being no further business to bring before the Board, Phil Cloud made the motion to adjourn, seconded by
Steve Trent.
