ACCESSION OF HISTORIC INTERLOCKING TOWER Mr. McCallum gave a brief history of the Sherman, Texas Tower 16, which was built around 1901. The building is in solid condition and has all the technology of the last 100 years in it. The original equipment was patented in 1894 and is still in working condition. The equipment would be used with student groups in a "Junior Engineer" program. The recommendation is to receive this building from Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) along with its internal equipment and the "Diamond"; cut the building into quarters and relocate it to Grapevine for storage until funds are available to restore the building. The estimated cost to move the tower is between five and eight thousand dollars. An estimated $40,000 would be required to restore the building and a capital project for the restoration would be submitted at a future time. A proposed location for the restored tower would be on the west side of Main Street just south of the railroad tracks. The building is of the same architecture as the Depot and would create a sense of arrival to downtown Grapevine. At that location it would attract people to the train parking lot on the west side of Main Street and would offer a sense of security for equipment. Board of Directors Meeting October 25, 2001 Page 2 of 2 ACCESSION OF HISTORIC INTERLOCKING TOWER cont. It would be used for field trips for students and for a "Junior Engineer" program with children. Bill Brink made a motion to authorize Paul W. McCallum to proceed with obtaining Interlocking Tower 16 located in Sherman, Texas, its equipment and the diamond and to attempt to keep the cost of the relocation under $8,000. Ev Barnes seconded the motion. Motion carried. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Bigbie adjourned the meeting. Cov ATTEST: DATE:
