SUBJECT: DOVE ROAD EXTENSION PAVING AND DRAINAGE
IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE
DEVELOPMENT OF WILDWOOD CREEK APARTMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider awarding a Construction Contract for Paving and Drainage
Improvements in Dove Road Extension to J. L. Bertram Construction and Engineering, Inc.,
in the amount of $607,068.11, authorize staff to execute said contract, and take any
necessary action.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for City and Developer participation are currently programmed as follows:

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The Wildwood Creek Apartments site was platted in August of 1999 by Fairfield Wildwood
Creek Limited Partnership. At that time, City Staff informed the developer that the
improvements to Dove Road Extension were to be constructed with the development of this

site. The plat dedicated the necessary right-of-way for this street between Boyd Drive and
Ruth Wall Street.
Dove Road Extension west of this property is currently a four -lane divided roadway. The
street is designated as a Type "B" Arterial on the Master Thoroughfare Plan (four -lane
divided street within an 80' right-of-way).
Nine bids were received on December 6, 1999. The bid results follow:

A review of the bids reveal that the bid of the apparent low bidder is in order. J.L. Bertram
has performed various projects in the City over the years with the Pool Road project being
the most recent.
The schedule for the project establishes 90 calendar days beginning 10 days after the
contractor receives a 'Notice to Proceed' from the City. City staff estimates that construction
will begin late January with a completion date of April / May 2000, weather permitting.
Staff recommends approval.

IMPACT ON OPERATING BUDGET
Operating budget impact includes the cost of periodic street sweeping, maintenance of road markings, sealing of joints in
pavement, and maintaining medians and parkways on both sides of the roadway.
