HomeMy WebLinkAboutWS Item 01 - Street Name Dove ExtensionW4tITN 1P I MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER W MEETING DATE: APRIL 18, 2000 SUBJECT: WORKSHOP — STREET NAME DOVE EXTENSION Staff will brief Council on the need to establish a consistent name for the roadway approved in the 1998 bond issue and unofficially called the "Dove East Extension" project. The roadway currently extends from N. Main Street to Boyd Drive under the name of Peach Street. A new section of the street is also currently platted and under construction as Peach Street from Boyd Drive to Ruth Wall St. The "Peach Street" name should be removed from this currently platted arterial alignment to relieve potential confusion with the existing Peach Street segment between N. Main Street and Scribner Street. The platted segment between N. Main Street and Ruth Wall Street and the planned westward connection between N. Main Street and the Dove Road / Dove Loop intersection should be established as one continuous name. As an alternative and to avoid additional confusion with the continued use of the name "Dove", Council may want to consider an entirely different name for this roadway. As you recall, about $9.2 million was set aside in the 1998 bond issue to construct the portion of the roadway from Dove / Dove Loop to North Main Street.
