SUBJECT: HISTORIC PRESERVATION AND GRAPEVINE HERITAGE
FOUNDATION PROJECTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider report of the 2000 Township Revitalization Program and a
report on the Nash Farm Master Plan.
BACKGROUND:
The Grapevine Township Revitalization Project, Inc. (GTRP) had a successful FY2000
grant program. The program awarded a total of 17 grants with reimbursements totaling
$89,320. To date, 15 of the grant awards have been started and/or completed.
Rehabilitation work on the Forbes House (208 S. Dooley Street) continues on the interior
and has been completed on the exterior. The Deacon House and Barn (204 S. Dooley
Street) were relocated from Euless into Grapevine in October 2000. The house has
been set on its foundation while the barn is awaiting public utility work on the rear of the
property prior to beginning its foundation. The Hudgins -Keeling House (627 Church
Street) had the non -historic addition removed from the original house. The Cotton Gin
House (originally at 501 W. Franklin Street) has also been relocated to the back of this
property.
A Master Plan and Historic Structures Report for the Nash Farmstead was completed in
2000 and includes recommendations for restoration of the house and barn as well as a
new facility for meetings. The plan was presented to the Homeowners Association on
October 10, 2000. Volunteers and staff began initial restoration of the 1907 barn by
removing deteriorating wood. The next phase of the restoration includes replacing
supporting beams, siding and replacing the wood shingle roof. The Nash Farm
Committee has received an estimate for restoring the house, which the committee will
consider and review at its next meeting, January 30, 2001.
