APPROVAL OF BID 75-2001, CONSTRUCTION OF
BONTANICAL GARDENS — PHASE II
City Council to consider approval of Bid 75-2001 to Randall and Blake, Inc. for phase II
development of the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park. The total cost for this contract is
$121,554.50. The bid tabulation is attached for review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funding for this purchase is currently available in account: 176-76105-001 — Botanical
Gardens.
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code, Section 252.021. Sixteen
vendors received bid packets, with four vendors responding. Notice of the bid was
published in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Grapevine Sun on November 30,
2000 and December 7, 2000. In addition, the bid was advertised on the City purchasing
web site. The web site had bid forms available for download.
This project is for the phase II development of the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park.
Included in this contract are the walkways, stage, gazebo, retaining walls and the
irrigation system. Parks Maintenance staff will install the landscaping and drainage
system and contract the installation of the sod. The add -alternate bids received for the
ponds and rivulet were very high and staff is in the process of researching how these
elements can be accomplished in this phase at a more reasonable cost.
The bid requested a base price for basic development work and pricing for seven add
alternates which included such items as various types of grading, irrigation and bed
preparation. After reviewing the bids staff concluded that the base bid plus the first and
seventh add alternates should be accepted and could be completed within the
appropriated budget. The first add alternate is for adjusting site grades and adding a 7'
width walkway and add alternate seven is for the installation of an irrigation system.
