SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
PURCHASE OF COMPUTERS FOR THE POLICE AND FIRE
DEPARTMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider a resolution authorizing the purchase of 115 computers and
associated hardware from Austin Ribbon & Computer in the amount of $246,773.00.

Funds for this project are available in account:
326-42281-101-3 Technology Fund/Dept. Purchases/Replacements/Apparatus & Tools
326-48860-101-3 Technology Fund/Dept. Purchases/Replacements/Machinery & Equip.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made under the State of Texas Qualified Information Systems
Vendor Catalog Program as authorized by Texas Government Code, Title 10, Subtitle D,
Chapter 2157.
In accordance with the above referenced Texas Government Code quotations were
requested from four Qualified Information Systems vendors with two QIS vendors
responding. Austin Ribbon & Computer provided the lowest and most responsive
proposal. A bid tabulation is attached for review.
The Police and Fire Departments will use these computers to operate the new Computer
Aided Dispatch and Records Management systems. The computers conform to the
required specifications of the public safety software vendor (VisionAir). These systems
allow the Police and Fire Departments to produce required reports, compile statistical
data and provide data to help them manage their respective departments.
Staff recommends approval.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN
THE PURCHASING PROGRAMS OF THE STATE
PURCHASING AND GENERAL SERVICES COMMISSION
FOR CERTAIN ITEMS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO EXECUTE SAID CONTRACTS AND DOCUMENTS; AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas, pursuant to the authority granted by
Texas Government Code, Title 10, Subtitle D, Chapter 2157, desires to participate in the
described purchasing programs of the State Purchasing and General Services
Commission; and
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine, Texas is of the opinion that participation in these
programs will be highly beneficial to the taxpayers of this City through the anticipated
savings to be realized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the City of Grapevine, Texas, does request the State Purchasing
and General Services Commission under the Qualified Information Systems Vendor
Program to include its stated need for:

on the commission's Qualified Information Systems Vendor Program (QISV), whereby the
City of Grapevine may be allowed to purchase these items from the QISV program.
Section 2. That the City Manager or his designee, is authorized and directed to
sign and deliver all necessary requests and other documents in connection therewith for
and on behalf of the City of Grapevine.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 16th day of January, 2001.
