SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
PURCHASE OF MOBILE RADIOS FOR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider a resolution authorizing the purchase of 10 mobile radios for
the Fire Department from Motorola, Inc. in the amount of $32,744.40.
FUNDING SOURCE:
325-48860-210-3 Lease Fund/Fire/Operations............. $32,744.40
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made as a sole source purchase under the State of Texas Local
Government Code Chapter 252, Section 252.022 (7) (D).
These radios were approved by Council to be purchased in the current budget year. The
radios will be used by the Fire Department. They are purchased as a sole source
because they can only be used with other existing Motorola equipment. The units are
water proof and designed specifically for a Fire environment. The units have been found
to be both safe and very reliable.
Staff recommends approval.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAKING FINDINGS OF CERTAIN
FACTS RELATIVE TO THE PURCHASE OF MOBILE
RADIOS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FROM ONLY ONE
SOURCE; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE SAID CONTRACTS AND DOCUMENTS AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine desires to purchase mobile radios from Motorola,
Inc. as a sole source; and
WHEREAS, Motorola, Inc. is the sole provider of the following equipment:
10 Each
Astro Digital XTS 3000 Model II
10 Each
Smartnet System Software Package
10 Each
Approved Ultra High Capacity Battery
10 Each
Ruggedized Housing Option
10 Each
Additional Yellow Housing
10 Each
Enhanced Rapid Rate Charger
1 Each
Program Radios
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase
of the listed equipment for a total not to exceed the annual budgeted amount of
$32,744.40.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 6th day of February, 2001.
