SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT BARTON STREET
LANDSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council consider awarding a construction contract for Barton Street Landscaping
Improvements to Garden Design Landscaping in an amount of $130,693.62, authorize
staff to execute said contract, and take any necessary action.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The project consists of installing landscape and streetscape elements along Barton
Street as part of the Main Street Crown Removal project. The elements include the
removal of existing asphalt for the installation of curbed landscaping beds and
dumpster and garbage can pads, the installation of trees, shrubs and ground cover and
the installation of an irrigation system. The improvements will be located on the east
side of Barton Street starting south of the Palace Arts Center and continuing south to
Franklin Street.

This project was publicly bid by the City. Three bids were received as follows:

Miller Sierra Contractors, Inc.
Staff recommends approval.

GENERAL GOVERNMENT CAPITAL PROJECTS
Main Street Crown Removal
This project will lower the exaggerated roadway crown in South Main Street from Wall Street to College Street. This
will improve parallel parking access to businesses on Main Street by minimizing the car door conflicts with the high
sidewalks and steps at the storefronts. In addition, this project will add landscape and streetscape elements to South
Main Street and Barton Street.
