HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 09 - Park EquipmentITEM • q=W_ MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 1, 2001 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF BID 89-2001 PARK EQUIPMENT—ANNUAL CONTRACT RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval of an annual contract award to Modlin Recreation and Doty and Sons for the purchase of various types of park equipment on an as needed basis. Purchases will be limited to the annual budgeted amount for this commodity. The bid tabulation is attached for review. Park Improvements........................................................................... $3,434.00 BACKGROUND: Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code, Section 252.021. Notice of the bid was published in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Grapevine Sun on March 1, 2001 and March 8, 2001. In addition, the bid was advertised on the City purchasing web site. The web site had bid forms available for download. This bid is to make an initial purchase and then to establish an annual contract for future replacement of Trash Containers, Drinking Fountains, Bleachers and Benches at various City Parks. The bid was sent to fifteen vendors with ten vendors responding. Bids were opened on March 23, 2001 and all bid responses were read aloud. April 24, 2001 (8:48AM) Staff recommendation is to make an award as follows: Item 1 It is recommended that this item be awarded to the low bid of Doty & Sons Item 2 -It is recommended that this item be awarded to the second low bid of Modlin Recreation. The low bid of Kay Park Recreation did not meet the specifications listed in the bid. The equipment they bid was polyurethane enamel coated rather than powder coated and they did not bid a one piece body construction as requested. Item 3 -It is recommended that this item be awarded to the low bid of Modlin Recreation. Item 44t is recommended that this item be awarded to the low bid of Modlin Recreation. Item -6 It is recommended that this item be awarded to the second low bid of Modlin Recreation. The low bid of Jaypro Sports, Inc. did not meet the requested specifications listed in the bid. The equipment they bid was aluminum rather than the plasticsol vinyl coated. Due to the fact that aluminum becomes extremely hot in the summer and can burn people and children who wear shorts it is not an acceptable product to use for bleachers. Item 6-1t is recommended that this item be awarded to the second low bid of Modlin Recreation. The low bid of Jaypro Sports, Inc. did not meet the requested specifications listed in the bid.
