HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 07 - Water Main ImprovementsMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER I�X MEETING DATE: MARCH 15, 2005 SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT AWARD — BS 114L WATER MAIN IMPROVEMENTS RECOMMENDATION: City Council consider awarding the BS 114L Water Main Improvements Construction Contract to Canary Construction Inc. in an amount of $506,855.75, authorize staff to execute said contract, and take any necessary action. Portions of the new water main are replacing an existing water main to accommodate future construction on the BS 114L roadway widening. The remainder of the new water main will provide a continuous looped water system for the BS 114L corridor. Bids were opened on February 22, 2005 with ten bidders submitting bids for the project as follows: Canary Construction Inc. $ 506,855.75 Sabre Development $ 553,247.15 Joe Bland Construction $ 559,984.00 Whitewater Construction $ 563,880.04 RKM Utility $ 567,620.25 Jackson Construction $ 575,575.75 GRA-TEK $ 578,801.00 NT Contracting $ 584,800.00 ET Contracting $ 597,557.95 GIN-SPEN $ 657,202.20 The engineer's estimate for the project is $ 513,200.00. The low bidder, Canary Construction Inc, is a qualified contractor with the ability to perform the work. The reference check indicates that Canary has performed well on other similar projects. Canary performed work for the City of Grapevine approximately four years ago with no problems in either quality or timeliness.
