HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 04 - Wallis BuildingMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER& MEETING DATE: JUNE 7, 2005 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A CONTRACT TO REPLACE THE WINDOWS AT THE WALLIS BUILDING RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider approval to award a contract to Parkway Construction to replace the windows at the Wallis Building in the total amount of $35,772.00 FUNDING SOURCE: Funds are available in Capital Project Fund-CVB/Wallis Remodel Account 179-79153 BACKGROUND: Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement posted in the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Grapevine Sun on May 5, 2005 and May 12, 2005. Staff issued bid documents to three contractors. One contractor responded to the invitation. A bid tabulation is attached for review. The purpose of this solicitation was to secure the lowest and most responsive pricing for the replacement of 49 windows and 2 doorframes at the Wallis Building. This work will consist of the replacement of outside windowsills, frames and doors and painting all exterior wood. This expenditure will return the building to its original state and stop any further deterioration of the windows and doors. Staff issued bids to three contractors known for specific restoration services to historic buildings. One vendor responded to the invitation. The other two contractors indicated they could not bid due to current workloads. The responding vendor, Parkway Construction was founded in Dallas in 1981. They currently have 110 employees and complete approximately 200 projects annually. Staff recommends an award to Parkway Construction for the purchase replacement of windows and doorframes at the Wallis Building in a total not to exceed $35,772.00.
