HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER MAY 17, 2005 CHANGE ORDER # 2, CHURCH STREET AND DOOLEY STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT City Council consider approving Change Order # 2 to the Church Street and Dooley Street Reconstruction Project in an amount of $122,579.33, authorize staff to execute said change order, and take any necessary action. Change Order # 2 addresses a number of items that have been modified, added and deleted as the project has progressed for a total addition of $122,579.33. The total increase in the Roadway Paving costs is $91,703.31. The major components of this expenditure are the following items: The first was additional concrete drive replacement from an estimated 500 SY to a final quantity of 1,181 SY. This increase was primarily due to the modifications to the original roadway plan to incorporate curb & gutter on Church Street in lieu of roadside ditches. This lowered the roadway surface in some areas to allow yard runoff to drain over the top of the curb. The lowered roadway sections necessitated the extension of driveway aprons further back into certain lots to provide a smooth transition from existing drives to the new drive sections and new pavement. $25,197.00 The second component was the reconstruction of Worth Street from Church Street west to its terminus in the Housing Authority property. This roadway was on the Street Department's schedule for rehab work after the completion of the street project. Staff approached our contractor to provide us a price to perform the rehab work as a part of the existing contract. The proposed price to pulverize the remaining existing pavement after the installation of the large drainage system in the roadway, cement stabilize the subgrade and place a two-inch asphalt overlay on the roadway was a very good value and freed the City crews to focus their efforts and funds on other streets within the City. $9,835.00 The third component was the overrun in quantities of six-inch Standard Curb & Gutter and four -inch Standard Concrete Sidewalk. $20,062.50 Minor modifications to the Water and Wastewater adjustments component of the contract total $914.00. Storm drainage modifications total $9,471.91. Storm Drainage Additions and Modifications are comprised of numerous minor changes at both the Church Street and Dooley Street locations. These minor changes included an additional 146 LF of 18 inch RCP and an additional curb inlet constructed in the Housing Authority to collect stormwater runoff from the FUMC parking area. This construction relieved an ongoing drainage problem being experienced along the common property line of the Housing Authority and the FUMC. 0:\agenda\2005\4-5-05\Change Roder # 2 - Church St May 11, 2005 (9:31AM) Miscellaneous Expenses experienced an increase of $20,490.11. The majority of this cost was in the increase in temporary asphalt paving necessitated by the unusually wet fall and the need to maintain Church Street, Dooley Street and the side streets in a passable condition during the inclement weather. $7,567.00 Staff recommends approval.
