Gratex was the low bid contractor out of seven bidders. The original project scope included six inch and eight inch water line improvements for the May 10, 2005 (3:08PM) Lake Forest Addition on Sunshine Harbor, Sky Harbor, Bellaire Addition, W. C. Lucas F Subdivision, Ridgecrest Addition, Peach St. Addition, the Ellis Subdivision and the Grapevine Industrial Park. The original Contract Price was in the amount of $737,180.00. The change order amount is slightly less than 25% of the original contract amount. The Contract Price including this change order is $920,621.00. The Contract Time with approval of this change order is July 18, 2005 for final completion. The good prices under this contract allow us to increase the scope of the project with existing funding. Additions to the project scope are proposed for Easy Street to replace the aging cast iron water main that comprises the major loop serving the residents in the area. The new eight inch PVC water main will greatly improve the City's water system capacity during peak water demands and fire emergencies. Also included in the proposed change order is the replacement of the aging cast iron water mains on Terrace Street between Hill Street and South Ball, and on Hill Street between Terrace Street and Bellaire Drive. The new six inch PVC water line will replace the aging cast iron lines and be constructed ahead of planned street maintenance for this area. Gratex has shown itself to be a competent contractor able to complete the work on schedule and according to the plans and specifications. Staff recommends approval of Change Order No. 1.
