SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF FIRE HOSE AND
APPLIANCES FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of fire hose and appliances from
Casco, Industries in the total amount of $32,255.00. A bid tabulation is attached for
review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in Lease Fund/Apparatus & Tools Account 325-42281-000-0000-07
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement posted in the
Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Grapevine Sun on May 26, 2005 and June 2, 2005.
Staff issued bid documents to five vendors. Three vendors responded to the invitation.
The purpose of this solicitation was to obtain competitive offers for the purchase of fire
hose, fire appliances and tools for the Fire Department. This equipment will replace worn
and outdated equipment.
Three vendors responded to the invitation. One vendor, Four Alarm Fire Equipment,
submitted an incomplete bid by not bidding items 1 through 7. All bids were submitted to
the Fire Department for review to insure that the equipment bid met the specification
requirements. Casco Industries was the only vendor that bid the fire nozzles correctly.
Dooley Tackaberry bid a non -breakaway nozzle and did not meet the specification
requirement. The breakaway nozzle provides more versatility when fighting fires.
Staff recommends approval of an award to Casco Industries which was the only vendor
to meet all of the specifications of the bid.
