SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF CARDIOVASCULAR
EQUIPMENT FOR THE COMMUNITY ACTIVITY CENTER
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of cardiovascular equipment from
FitCo for the Community Activity Center in a total amount of $24,674.00. The bid
tabulation is attached for review.

BACKGROUND:
Staff solicited three written quotations for this purchase. House Bill 197 raised the formal
bid limit requirement from $15,000 to $25,000. City Purchasing Policy requires at least
three written quotations for purchases between $3,000 and $25,000. Advertisements are
not required.
The contract involves the purchase of two treadmills, two elliptical machines and two
recumbent bikes and extended warranties for each. The average life expectancy of
commercial grade cardiovascular equipment used in a high traffic environment is three
years. The existing equipment is three years old and is used an average of 13 hours per
day. The existing six pieces have a three-year warranty, parts and labor. This warranty
will end this year just as the machines reach their life expectancy. The purchase of the
proposed equipment was included in the FY 2006 budget approved by the City Council.
In accordance with City purchasing policy, three written quotations were solicited for the
equipment and included a trade-in value for the existing equipment. As shown in the
attached bid tabulation, FitCo provided the best pricing and trade-in values and met the
required specifications.
Staff recommends approval of the purchase of the cardiovascular equipment from FitCo
in the total amount of $24,674.00.
