HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 11 - Surplus PropertyITEM 0- MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERSOF THE CITY COUNCIL / FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER . �/ MEETING DATE: AUGUST 17, 2004 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE DONATION OF SURPLUS PROPERTY TO THE MCFADDEN RANCH FOR TEXAS YOUTH — ROANOKE, TEXAS RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider a resolution for the donation of two soccer goals to the McFadden Ranch for Texas Youth — Roanoke, Texas. Please see the attached resolution. BACKGROUND: The McFadden Ranch for Texas Youth is a minimal detention facility for Texas youth. It is the largest facility of its kind in the State of Texas. There are currently 52 youth residing at the facility. McFadden Ranch has one soccer field that has milk crates as the soccer goals. The City recently removed eight soccer goals at Oak Grove Park and replaced them with new goals purchased by the Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association. The eight soccer goals that were removed from Oak Grove Park are headed for the scrap metal pile at the Service Center. The funds the City would receive for the two soccer goals as scrap metal would be minimal. Under Local Government Code Section 253.011 (C), municipalities may transfer property to a non-profit organization without complying with the notice and bidding requirements of Section 272.001(a) or other law. DE August 11, 2004 (1:34PM) RESOLUTION NO, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, DECLARING CERTAIN PROPERTY SURPLUS AND/OR SALVAGE; PROVIDING FOR THE DONATION OF SAID PROPERTY TO THE MCFADDEN RANCH FOR YOUTH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, it has been determined that,the City of Grapevine is in possession of surplus and/or salvage property; and WHEREAS, soccer goals for four fields at Oak Grove Park were removed and replaced with new soccer goals purchased by the Grapevine-Southlake Soccer Association; and WHEREAS, two of the eight soccer goals that were removed from Oak Grove Park would be a great enhancement to the soccer field at McFadden Ranch, the largest youth facility in the State of Texas that is located north of Roanoke, Texas. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS: Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety. Section 2. That the following items are declared surplus and are donated to the McFadden Ranch, Roanoke, Texas: 2 — Steel Pipe Soccer Goals Section 3. That the City Manger, or his designee, is authorized to make the above items available to the McFadden Ranch, Roanoke, Texas. Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its passage. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 17th day of August, 2004. ATTEST:
