AWARD OF BID 195-2004, MOBILE COMPUTERS, MOUNTS
AND INSTALLATION
City Council to consider award of bid 195-2004 to L & E Mobile Computers and Mounts
for the purchase and installation of mobile computers for the Fire Department in the total
amount of $64,180.55. The bid tabulation is attached for review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this contract are budgeted in the following account:
325-48860-000-0-0006 Lease Fund/Machinery & Equipment -'03 CO ......... $65,000.00
BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted in
the Grapevine Sun on July 8, 2004 and July 15, 2004.
The purpose of this bid is to establish competitive pricing for the purchase and
installation of eleven Panasonic ToughBook computers, locking dock stations and
associated mounting hardware for Fire Department vehicles. The installation will bring
Fire Department equipment to a common standard, improve emergency communication
and provide for fire personnel safety. This purchase was approved by Council to be
purchased in this fiscal year.
Bids were solicited from nine vendors with three vendors responding. Two of the
responding vendors no bid all items and indicated they could not respond due to
installation requirements. The configuration and installation of mobile computers
requires specialized mounting hardware that few vendors can supply. L & E Mobile
Computers is the leading supplier of this specialized equipment.
Staff recommends approval of a contract award to L & E Mobile Computers in the total
amount of $64,180.55.
