SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF THREE UTILITY CART
VEHICLES
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider award of a contract to Grapevine Kawasaki for the purchase of
three utility cart vehicles in the total amount of $15,891.00. A bid tabulation is attached
for review.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in Account 325-48910-000-0-0007 Lease Fund/Motor Vehciles
2005). The budgeted amount for each vehicle was $5,500 or a total of $16,500.
BACKGROUND:
This purchase is for one utility cart vehicle for the Water Treatment Plant and two utility
cart vehicles for the Wastewater Plant. The vehicles are needed to transport parts and
other weighted objects. There is currently no replacement criterion for this type of
vehicle. The current utility vehicles are being replaced because of high maintenance
costs. Council approved the budget for the purchase of these vehicles for procurement
in the 2005 budget year.
House Bill 197 raised the formal bid limit requirement from $15,000 to $25,000. Because
the total amount was under the $25,000 threshold, an advertisement was not required.
In accordance with City Purchasing Policy bids were solicited from three prospective
vendors. As indicated in the bid tabulation, Grapevine Kawasaki was the lowest bid
received and met all of the bid requirements.
Staff recommends approving the purchase from Grapevine Kawasaki.
