HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 06 - Dove Pool Bath HouseITEM 0 =- MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: ROGER NELSON, CITY MANAGER 0 MEETING DATE: OCTOBER 7, 2003 SUBJECT: DOVE POOL BATH HOUSE - CONTRACT RATIFICATION AND CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 RECOMMENDATION: City Council to ratify a construction contract with T.W. Foster, Inc. for the reconstruction of the Dove Pool Bath House in the amount of $14,763.53, approve Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $1,198.47, authorize staff to execute said Change Order and take any necessary action. FUNDING SOURCE: Construction Contract (PO No. 16225) $14,763.53 100-45561-109-1 Change Order No. 1 1.198.47 100-45561-109-1 TOTAL $15,962.00 100-45561-109-1 BACKGROUND: This summer, the Dove Pool Bath House was damaged due to a vehicle impacting it at a high rate of speed. Unfortunately, damage was done to the extent that the west wall of the facility required demolition and reconstruction. Due to the fact that the original contract for the reconstruction fell below the $15,000 threshold, staff approved the contract for the reconstruction of the facility. At the time the contract was executed, it was assumed that the Concrete Masonry Units could be secured from a local manufacturer. After an exhaustive search, it was determined that the original manufacturer could not be found. As a result, matching the color of the concrete masonry units became difficult. The brick mason was finally able to locate a company in Waco that was willing to prepare a special run of the brick to match the existing brick, both in size and color. As a result of the special customized manufacturing run, an increase in cost of the masonry has been experienced by the contractor. The contractor has requested a Change Order to the contract in the amount of $1,198.47 to cover the cost of the customized run. Staff recommends ratification and approval.
