BACKGROUND: The Grapevine Firefighter's Association has raised funds for the purchase of a piece of play equipment for Parr Park. The play equipment resembles a fire truck with attachments such as a slide and climbers. This piece of equipment is being donated to the City in memory of Cole Ueckert, son of Grapevine Fireman Richard Ueckert. Cole died last summer in a swimming pool accident. Once the funds are received from the Grapevine Firefighter's Association, staff will order the play equipment. The Association has already selected the piece of play equipment and negotiated a price with a vendor. Staff will organize a workday inviting citizens to come to Parr Park to help install the play equipment, similar to the installation of Casey's Clubhouse in Dove Park. The tentative date for the installation is Saturday, June 19, 2004. Members of the Grapevine Firefighter's Association, parents of Cole Ueckert and staff met at Parr Park in late March to discuss the location of the play equipment. Prior to the installation of the new play equipment, staff will remove two older pieces of play equipment from the site and prepare the site for the new equipment. Once the play equipment is installed, staff will add a cushion material under the play equipment. Funds expended for this project, above that received from the Firefighter's Association, will come from Parks Maintenance and the Southwest Open Space Fund.
