HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem 04 - Geotechnical Investigation ContractMEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER i MEETING DATE: NOVEMBER 5, 2013 SUBJECT: AWARD OF GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION CONTRACT — PUBLIC SAFETY FACILITY RECOMMENDATION City Council consider awarding the Geotechnical Investigation contract for the Public Safety Facility Project to Fugro Consultants, Inc. in the amount of $34,840.00 and a 10% project contingency in the amount of $3,500.00, authorize staff to execute said contract, and take any necessary action. FUNDING: Funds are programmed in the Public Safety Facility Project Budget in account 177-48840 - 019209-PSDES. BACKGROUND: Geotechnical investigation of the Public Safety Facility site is an early and important step in development of the project design and construction. Based upon the results of these investigations, including 12 borings up to 80 feet in depth, the firm will provide design recommendations for: • Foundation type, depth and allowable loading • Foundation construction considerations • Floor slab subgrade preparation procedures • Below grade walls • Excavation • Earthwork • Screen walls • Construction procedures /staging to reduce future influence on existing detention pond walls, and • Pavement sections Fugro Consultants, Inc. is highly regarded for this type of work and the City of Grapevine has used them in the past with good results.
