SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION TO RATIFY STAFF ACTION
FOR THE REPAIR OF ELECTRICAL PANELS AT THE WATER
TREATMENT PLANT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider a resolution to ratify the purchase of electrical services from
Krause Design, Inc. to repair electrical panels at the water treatment plant in the total
amount of $44,860.00.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this purchase are available in account 200-43360-534-0 Utility Enterprise
Fund/Perm. Capital Maint./Water Supply Infrast. Maint.
BACKGROUND:
This procurement was made as an emergency purchase as allowed by Local
Government Code 252.022 (a) (2) (3).
The approved resolution will ratify Staff's action taken as a result of an electrical short at
the Water Treatment Plant. The short caused destruction of one of the main busses and
part of the motor control center of the plant. The motor control center is critical to the
operation of the plant. It not only serves the high service pumps and transfer pumps, but
it also serves the flocculators, filter valves, chemical feed equipment and other required
loads. The type of repair required was labor intensive due to the number of cables that
had to be rerouted in order to remove the damaged equipment. Staff notified City
Administration and received approval to take immediate action to repair the damage
because of the emergency nature of the situation.
Krause Design, Inc. was contracted to make the necessary emergency repairs that have
now been completed.
Staff requests approval of the resolution to ratify the emergency repair at the Water
Treatment Plant in the total amount of $44,860.00.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAKING FINDINGS OF CERTAIN
FACTS RELATIVE TO THE PURCHASE OF ELECTRICAL
SERVICES TO REPAIR ELECTRICAL PANELS AND THE
MOTOR CONTROL CENTER AT THE WATER TREATMENT
PLANT; RATIFY STAFF ACTION AUTHORIZING SAID
REPAIRS AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine required emergency electrical repair services at
the City Water Treatment Plant, and;
WHEREAS, Krauce Design, Inc. was able to respond to the emergency and make
necessary repairs to the electrical panels and motor control center.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine ratifies the action taken
by Staff to authorize emergency repairs to the electrical panel and motor control center
in a total amount not to exceed $44,860.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 4th day of March, 2003.
