BACKGROUND:
Bids were taken in accordance with Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.021 (a) and Section 252.041 (a). The bid advertisement was posted in
the Grapevine Sun on May 1, 2003 and May 8, 2003.
The purpose of this bid is to establish competitive pricing for the purchase and
installation of a high-pressure air compressor system for Fire Station 1.
Bids were sent to nine vendors with one vendor responding. Bids requested pricing for
the removal of the current compressor and installation of a new high-pressure air
breathing system including all necessary electrical and plumbing requirements for
support of the system.
Because of the specialized requirements of this system there are few vendors capable
of supplying both the compressor and supporting requirements. August Industries was
the only bid received. This vendor has supplied a number of other municipalities with
similar systems and met all of the required specifications of the bid.
Staff recommends award of a purchase order to August Industries for a total amount not
to exceed $45,781.00.
