SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
PURCHASE OF MOBILE RADIOS FOR THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider a resolution authorizing the purchase of 10 mobile radios for the
Fire Department from Motorola, Inc. in the amount of $29,123.80.
FUNDING SOURCE:
325-42281-000-0-0005 Lease Fund/Fire/Operations............. $29,123.80
BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made as a sole source purchase under the State of Texas Local
Government Code Chapter 252, Section 252.022 (7) (D).
This purchase is for 10 Motorola Astro XTS 3000 portable mobile emergency radios
including associated hardware and software. The radios are to be used by the Fire
Department and are specifically designed for fire and rescue operations. They are
purchased as a sole source because they are the only radios that can be used with
existing Motorola equipment.
Staff recommends approval.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAKING FINDINGS OF CERTAIN
FACTS RELATIVE TO THE PURCHASE OF MOTOROLA
PORTABLE RADIOS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FROM ONLY
ONE SOURCE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO EXECUTE SAID CONTRACTS AND DOCUMENTS AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine desires to purchase 10 Motorola portable radios
including associated hardware and software from Motorola, Inc. as a sole source; and;
WHEREAS, Motorola, Inc. is the sole provider of the following equipment:
10 Each Astro Digital XTS 300 Model 11 portable radios
10 Each Smartnet System Software
10 Each Astro XTS 300 Batteries
10 Each Analog Operation
10 Each Housings
10 Each Public Safety "Yellow" Housings
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase
of the listed equipment for a total not to exceed the annual budgeted amount of
$29,123.80.
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 4th day of December, 2001.
