SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CONTRACT RENEWAL FOR BID NUMBER 44-
2000, MOWING AND HERBICIDE
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider renewal of an annual contract award to VMC Landscaping as
the lowest and best bid meeting City specifications for an annual contract for mowing. A
bid tabulation is attached for review. Annual contract expenditures will be limited to the
annual budgeted amount shown below.
FUNDING SOURCE:
100-44540-312-3 General Fund/Park Maint/Professional Services ..............$180,000.00
BACKGROUND:
This request is to renew the annual contract for mowing services to City parks,
roadways, and medians. Bids were initially solicited in January 2000 and approved by
Council on March 7, 2000. The specifications of the bid provided for fixed pricing for a
one-year period with an option to renew for four additional one-year periods. This
request is for the second renewal.
Six of fifteen vendors responded to the bid. The specifications requested pricing for both
mowing and herbicide treatments in five sections (North Side, Railroad Right of Ways,
South Side, City Facility Grounds, Water, Wastewater, and Fire Dept Grounds). Each
section has a guaranteed mowing in various day cycles.
The original award was made to VMC Landscaping for mowing services and to Tru
Green Landscape for herbicide treatment services. VMC Landscaping agreed to renew
the contract with no increases in pricing. Tru Green declined to renew the contract. The
herbicide portion of this bid will be re -bid on an as needed basis.
VMC Landscaping has successfully performed the required services and Staff
recommends approval.
