SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF FIRE HOSE FOR THE
FIRE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider award of a contract to Casco Industries for the purchase of
various types of fire hose for the Fire Department in the total amount of $16,464.00.
FUNDING SOURCE:
325-42281-000-0000-05 Equipment Notes/Minor Apparatus and Tools.. $41,500.00
BACKGROUND:
This purchase is for various types of fire hose as approved during this budget year for
the Fire Department. The hose is to replace hose that is more than 10 years of age and
has reached the end of its safe operating period.
House Bill 197 raised the formal bid limit requirement from $15,000 to $25,000. In
accordance with City Purchasing Policy three written quotations were taken and an
advertisement was not required. A copy of the bid tabulation is attached for review.
The specifications of this bid required International Organization for Standardization
certification to insure the quality of the hose. The lowest bid received was from Dooley
Tackaberry. This vendor is not certified and does not meet the specifications as written
and accepted as a standard in the industry. The second low bid from Casco Industries
met all of the required specifications and is certified by the International Organization for
Standardization.
Staff recommends award of a contract to Casco Industries that is the lowest bid that met
all of the required specifications.
