APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF MOBILE MOUNTING
EQUIPMENT AND INSTALLATION OF LAPTOPS IN POLICE
VEHICLES
City Council to consider award of a contract to L & E Mobile Mounts for the purchase of
mobile mounting equipment for the Police Department in the total amount of $18,978.73.
FUNDING SOURCE:
100-48860-209-4 General Fund/Technical Services/Machinery and Equip ... $20,000.00
BACKGROUND:
On September 1, 2001, House Bill 197 raised the formal bid limit requirement from
$15,000 to $25,000. In accordance with City Purchasing Policy three written quotations
were taken and an advertisement was not required. A copy of the bid tabulation is
attached for review.
This item includes the purchase of docking station mounting equipment, the installation
of laptops and the associated hardware in police vehicles. With this installation, patrol
car equipment will be standardized, enabling the automatic vehicle locator system to
become operational. The system will aid in officer safety and help decrease call
response times.
The lowest bid received for this equipment was from L & E Mobile Computers and
Mounts. This vendor met all of the required specifications.
Staff recommends award of a contract to L & E Mobile Computers and Mounts for this
equipment.
