A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
MOBILE RADIOS FOR THE POLICE
City Council to consider a resolution authorizing the purchase of mobile radios and
associated hardware for the Police Department from Motorola, Inc. in the amount of
$32,762.32.

BACKGROUND:
This purchase will be made as a sole source purchase under the State of Texas Local
Government Code Chapter 252, Section 252.022 (7) (D).
This purchase is for Motorola Astro Spectra motorcycle and mobile emergency radios
including associated hardware and software as listed in the attached price schedule.
The radios are to be used by the Police Department and are specifically designed for
Police operations.
The Motorola radios currently in use last approximately five years, depending on their
usage. In an effort to avoid replacing all the radios at the same time a replacement
schedule has been established. This schedule calls for the replacement of a small
percentage of the radios each year. This is the first purchase on the replacement
schedule. The necessary funds were budgeted and available for this purchase. They are
purchased as a sole source because they can only be used with existing Motorola
equipment.
Staff recommends approval.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAKING FINDINGS OF CERTAIN
FACTS RELATIVE TO THE PURCHASE OF MOTOROLA
PORTABLE RADIOS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FROM ONLY
ONE SOURCE AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER
TO EXECUTE SAID CONTRACTS AND DOCUMENTS AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Grapevine desires to purchase Motorola motorcycle and
portable radios including associated hardware and software from Motorola, Inc. as a sole
source; and
WHEREAS, Motorola, Inc. is the sole provider of the equipment as shown on the
price schedule attached as Exhibit "A".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated in the above preamble are true and correct and
are incorporated herein as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Grapevine authorizes the purchase
of the listed equipment for a total not to exceed the annual budgeted amount of
$32,762.32
Section 3. That the City Manager, or his designee, is authorized to take all steps
necessary to consummate the purchase.
Section 4. That this resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.

GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 7th day of May, 2002.
