BACKGROUND: The City Staff continues to look for every opportunity to save money through advantageous pricing for goods and services purchased by the City. The Innovation Group National Purchasing Alliance was created to increase the purchasing power of government entities throughout North Texas. This organization appears to provide opportunities for good pricing (similar to HGAC and other purchasing groups we have used in the past) and will be one additional tool we can use to save money. Joining this organization will not preclude continuing to make bid notices and sales opportunities available to local vendors to bid on City business. We will continue to look to "buying Grapevine" first and will select the most advantageous price before awarding bids on applicable products. Current members in the alliance include cities such as the Ft. Worth, Plano, Garland, Richardson, eight other cities, two counties and one school district in the North Texas region. Twenty additional cities are in the process of joining. The alliance uses Internet -based technologies to create a single source for product and awarded contract information RFP Depot is a secured Web site and allows members to place orders electronically, thus streamlining the purchasing process. The RFP Depot format allows point -and -click access to detailed product descriptions, part numbers, and images. Products under contract include office supplies and equipment, automotive products, maintenance supplies, medical supplies, computers and software, grounds maintenance equipment and other items generally used by the City.
