SUBJECT: APPROVAL TO ESTABLISH AN ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION FOR
AN ON-LINE NEWSPAPER DATABASE SERVICE FOR THE
LIBRARY
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval to purchase an annual subscription of an on-line
Newspaper Database Service for the Library from Newsbank, Inc. in the total amount of
$17,750.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 100-42200-313-1 General Fund/Operating Supplies/
Library/Administration.
BACKGROUND:
This procurement will be made under Local Government Code Chapter 252, Subchapter
B, Section 252.022 (a) (8) that allows an exception to the bid process for "a purchase of
rare books, papers, and other library materials for a public library".
This request is for approval to establish an annual subscription of an on-line Newspaper
Database Service for the Library from Newsbank, Inc. This service provides access to
the Fort Worth Star Telegram (remote access), America's Genealogy Bank, American's
Obituaries and Death Notices, the Dallas Morning News Archive and America's
Newspapers for research and genealogy searches to assist the public. Newsbank, Inc.
has been used for this service since 2005 and has provided excellent service.
Staff recommends approval to establish an annual subscription of an on-line Newspaper
Database Service for the Library from Newsbank, Inc in the total amount of $17,750.00.
