SUBJECT: OAK GROVE BALLFIELD COMPLEX - CHANGE ORDER #2
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve Change Order #2 for the pumping system
for irrigation for the Oak Grove Ballfield Complex in the amount of $833,935.48. The
construction contractor is Workman Commercial Construction. A breakdown of the cost
of the elements of the pumping system is attached.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 121-48850-312-07-000002 Council Quality of Life
Fund/Improvements Other Than Buildings in the amount of$833,935.48.
BACKGROUND:
The renovation of the Oak Grove Ballfield Complex is the first major "Quality of Life"
project utilizing the sales tax increase approved by the citizens of Grapevine in
November of 2006. The project includes the development of nine baseball/softball
fields, restroom/concession facility, playground, maintenance building, lighting,
landscaping, irrigation and parking.
Below is a breakdown of the cost of the elements to install the pumping system.
Excavating/silt fencing $13,200.00
Irrigation piping and valves 41,415.00
Pond Fountain 8,357.80
Concrete flatwork 45,540.00
Wet wells and piping 424,251.30
Pumps and installation 162,740.60
Electrical work 37,862.00
Masonry pumphouse (40' x 40') 74,867.10

The pumping system will include two wet wells, pumps and pump house, fertigation
tank, electrical, plumbing and a one-acre pond to store raw water from the lake. The
pond will be located at the southeast corner of the Oak Grove Soccer Complex. Also,
the system will be linked to the irrigation systems at the Oak Grove Soccer and Softball
Complexes.
Finally, there will be a significant cost savings in using raw water versus using treated
water. Using raw water is also better for the health of the turf. Also, the fertigation
system will allow staff to fertilize the turf by injecting the liquid fertilizer into the irrigation
system. With the savings on the water, the improvements to irrigate the baseball,
softball and soccer fields at Oak Grove Park using raw water will be paid for in
approximately 15 years.
