MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER MEETING DATE: MAY 20, 2008 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION FOR THE DONATION OF SURPLUS PROPERTY TO GRAPEVINE YOUTH BASEBALL RECOMMENDATION: City Council to consider a resolution for the donation of a Toro Workman maintenance utility vehicle to Grapevine Youth Baseball (GYB). Please see the attached resolution and letter from Grapevine Youth Baseball regarding the proposed donation. BACKGROUND: The Toro Workman was purchased in 1988 and was utilized by the Parks Maintenance Division for spraying herbicides. The unit was replaced because of age as a part of our regular replacement cycle. When the Oak Grove Baseball Complex is under renovation, GYB will be playing games at ballfields in parks throughout the city, including at Bear Creek Park and Parr Park. The Parks Maintenance Division prepares the ballfields for league play during the week and the association prepares the ballfields on the weekends. GYB intends to utilize the Toro Workman to prepare the infields of the ballfields for league games on the weekends. Staff recommends approval. With the renovation of Oak Grove Park approaching, we are planning on how to handle the different situations that may occur because of having games at multiple locations. We would be able to use this workman at either Bear Creek or Parr Park. It will also be there for Parks and Recreation to use as needed for whatever situation arises Thank you for your consideration of this request and for Parks and Recreations continued support of Grapevine Youth Baseball.
