SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF THE PURCHASE OF A MOTORCYCLE FOR
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of the purchase of a 2008 Motorcycle from American
Eagle Harley-Davidson in the total amount of$15,901.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds for this service are budgeted in account 100-45561-109-1 Insurance/P & L Claims
Paid $15,901.
BACKGROUND:
In accordance with purchasing policy, Staff solicited written quotations for this purchase.
House Bill 3506 raised the formal bid limit requirement from $25,000 to $50,000.
Effective September 1, 2007, formal bids and advertisements are not required for
purchases under $50,000.
This purchase is for a 2008 Harley-Davidson Police Motorcycle for the Police
Department. This motorcycle will replace unit 91086 that was wrecked with total damage
on June 29, 2007. The replacement cost was completely covered by insurance. The
insurance company has already paid the claim.
Staff solicited three written quotations for the purchase of the new unit and received
three responses. The lowest quotation received was from American Eagle Harley-
Davidson. This company met all of the required specifications. The bid tabulation is
attached for review.
Staff recommends award of a purchase order to American Eagle Harley-Davidson in an
amount not to exceed $15,901.
