SUBJECT: 2012 POPULATION ESTIMATE
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution setting the population at 47,854
as of December 31, 2012.
BACKGROUND:
The estimated population at the end of 2011 was 47,101. Between the end of 2011 and
December 31, 2012, an additional 38 single-family construction permits and six single-
family demolition permits were issued. A total of 312 multi-family units permitted in 2011
but not finished until 2012 were added to the 2012 figures. A total of 517 multi-family units
were permitted in 2012 but they have not been finished and will not be added until the
2013 estimates are calculated. A unit ratio of 2.504 persons per unit and a 94%occupancy
ratio were applied to the unit totals. These ratios and percentages were derived from the
2010 Census data. These calculations yielded a population gain of 753 persons during
2012 for a total population estimate of 47,854 persons by December 31, 2012.

RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, MAKING OFFICIAL THE FINDING
AND DETERMINATION AS TO THE POPULATION AND
NUMBER OF INHABITANTS OF AND WITHIN THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS, AS OF DECEMBER 31, 2012 AND
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City Council of Grapevine, Texas, has found and determined that
it will be for the benefit of said City to have a revised estimate of the population and
number of inhabitants, and that the City make an official finding thereof; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has directed that an unofficial census of the
population of the City of Grapevine be taken; and
WHEREAS, based upon the 2010 Census Report, City building records, and the
investigation and review of the City's growth by the City Managers Office, it has been
found and determined that the City of Grapevine, Texas, as of December 31, 2012
actually has within its limits a population of 47,854.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF , T .
Section 1. That the City Council has officially found and determined, and does
now find and determine, that the population of the City of Grapevine, Texas, as of the
31 st day of December 2012, is 47,854.
Section 2. That the City Secretary is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
resolution to the Texas Highway Department so that they may change the population
signs on the roads and highways entering and leaving the City of Grapevine, Texas.
Section 3. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the date of
its final passage.
