MEMO TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL -- FROM: BRUNO RUMBELOW, CITY MANAGER :° MEETING DATE: JANUARY 15, 2008 SUBJECT: WORKSHOP — MAIN STREET FIRE PROTECTION During the workshop on Tuesday Staff will update Council on the following; 1. Review and discussion of fire protection bids. The engineer's estimate from Reed Engineering was $1,691,625.76 and the actual bid amount to Firetrol is $1,117,993.00. The project savings is $573,632.76. The reason the bid is lower, which occurred on the public side of this project, is because city forces will be used to run the connection between the city main lines (on Barton and Jenkins) into the buildings. In addition, Reed simply estimated the public cost portion too high which means that all the savings in the Firetrol's bid (except for $10,825.76 on the private side) are on the public side of the project. Given the manner in which the project was discussed with the downtown building owners we want to make certain staff is following Council's policy direction in the manner in which the costs of the project are apportioned in light of Firetrol's outstanding bid. 2. Staff will update Council on the status of the paperwork received from building owners. As of today 28 of 29 building owners have turned in their participation/right of entry forms. 3. Staff will present a construction calendar for the project and discuss any details or questions Council may have about the construction of the project. Please let me know if you have any questions on this item. January 11, 2008 (12:03PM)
