SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF A RESOLUTION UPDATING THE ADOPT AN
AREA PROGRAM
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider approval of a resolution updating the Adopt An Area Program.
BACKGROUND:
The Adopt an Area program has been very successful in Grapevine. Currently over 80
areas (parks, roads, medians, ROW's and lakeshores) are adopted. These Adopt an
areas equate to a$45,000 donation or savings to the City on an annual basis,which makes
for a cleaner, greener Grapevine. This program also instills a sense of pride and
ownership for the participants.
The attached resolution streamlines the application process by only requiring the approval
of the Parks& Recreation Advisory Board rather than the approval of both the City Council
and Parks Board. This will expedite the process and allow the areas to be serviced faster
by the groups.
Staff recommends approval.

RESOLUTION NO. 2017-008
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS REGARDING THE ADOPT AN AREA
PROGRAM AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City's adopt an area program has successfully leveraged public
participation in maintaining the beauty of the City; and
WHEREAS, the Program has historically included an Application, approval by the
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and approval by the City Council; and
WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is adequately equipped to
administer the processing of Program applications; and
WHEREAS, all constitutional and statutory prerequisites for the approval of this
resolution have been met, including but not limited to the Open Meetings Act; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems the adoption of this resolution to be in the
best interests of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF GRAPEVINE, TEXAS:
Section 1. That all matters stated hereinabove are found to be true and
correct and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety.
Section 2. That the City of Grapevine Adopt an Area Program is hereby
affirmed in conjunction with Keep Grapevine Beautiful, Inc. That the Grapevine Parks
and Recreation Advisory Board is hereby authorized to administer the application
process for Adopt an Area Program.
Section 3. That all matters stated hereinabove are found to be true and
correct and are incorporated herein by reference as if copied in their entirety.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect from and after the date of its
passage.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS on this the 17th day of January, 2017.
