SUBJECT: APPROVAL FOR CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH VSP FOR
VISION INSURANCE PLAN
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council to consider renewal of an annual contract with VSP for vision insurance.
FUNDING SOURCE:
Funds are available in account 100-45674-109-1 (Health Insurance Premium) in the
estimated annual amount of$133,000.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Grapevine offers vision insurance to all benefit eligible employees and their
eligible dependents. The plan has been in place with VSP since October 2014 without a
rate increase. The plan is renewing this year with a 12% increase over current rate. The
increase is the result of an increased number of employee claims. City employee vision
premiums will not increase for FY18.
City staff reviewed the proposal options and determined that VSP's current plan would
continue to provide the best service and pricing to meet the needs of the City.
This contract is for two years with a two year rate guarantee.
Staff recommends approval.
