SUBJECT: AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT - WATER LINE
REPAIR AT RUTH WALL AND SH 26
RECOMMENDATION
City Council consider awarding a contract for water line repair at the north east corner of
Ruth Wall and SH 26 to Wright Construction, Co., Inc. in the amount of $16,353.00,
authorizing staff to execute said contract, and take any necessary action.
FUNDING:
Funds are available in the FY 17 Water PCMF account 200-43360-534-0.
BACKGROUND:
The existing 24" water line at the north east corner of Ruth Wall and SH 26 has been
leaking for the last several years. The leak has worsened over the years to the point
where the ground was completely saturated during construction of the SH 26 Hike and
Bike Trail.
This contract is to hire a contractor to assist City forces in replacing the existing 24"
concrete cylinder pipe with PVC piping and to install new valves and connections to the
adjacent 16" pipes to meet the summer water demands on the distribution system and
eliminate the leaks at this point.
The City will supply all materials including pipe, backfill materials and related
appurtenances for installation of the water line. The contractor shall install the water line
as these large/heavy valves, fittings and pipe diameters exceed that which staff has
resources to install.
Four written quotes were received as listed below:
Wright Construction Co., Inc. $ 16,353.00
Tejas Commercial Construction, LLC $ 26,650.00
Bandera Utility Contractors, Inc. $ 39,500.00
Utilitex No response after several requests and 30 days
Staff recommends approval.
