Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 PM on June 2, 2015 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center. The following members were present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Karen Rice,Housing Authority Maryann Waddell,GRACE Paul Ernst Kay Blanding Charles Burns Pam Price Dr. Alexander Graham Those not present: Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Megan Varner, Recreation Coordinator Carey Miller 2. Consideration of minutes for April 7, 2015 meeting Approved 3. Citizen Requests a. Directional/informational signage inside The REC would be helpful. (This has been ordered and should be up soon.) b. It's a long walk from the parking lot to the front door at The REC. (When the construction materials are removed from the parking lot, closer-in parking will be available. Also reserved Active Adult parking spots are being considered.) 4. New Business a. Duff O'Dell-City Council -Main concerns revolve around the recent flooding issue. There is a lot of work involved recovering from a natural disaster. There is a loss of revenue with the closure of the Vineyards Campground, lake parks and the canceled 1 softball season. Fire,police, animal control,public works,parks and recreation are all extremely busy. -A question was asked about a possible Kubota Tractor facility in Grapevine. It looks imminent. b. Karen Rice-Housing Authority -Public Housing sidewalks are being repaired and dumpster pads enlarged. Once the pads are enlarged, fences will be installed around them as a visual screen. Showers are being replaced on W. Worth Street,but project will not be completed until the 2015 funds are released which should be soon. -The Grapevine Public Housing was recently evaluated and had a PHAS score of 99 which designates us as a High Performer which means less reporting and oversight by HUD. -The waiting list was opened on March 11 and received 279 new applicants for the Public Housing list raising the total number of applicants on the waiting list to 410. 253 applicants applied for Section 8 raising the total number of applicants on the waiting list to 292. c. Maryann Waddell-GRACE Friends and Family program: -Total clients: April-118 /May-118 -Total commodities delivered: April-90/May-88 -Volunteer hours: April-104.50/May-still totaling -Total Matches: April-21 /May-21 -New Clients: April-2/May-1 -New Commodities Clients: February-2 /March-0 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): April-1/May-2 -New Volunteers: April-1 /May-0 -Home visits were made to homebound clients to update files for 2015 -GRACE hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon in April -Poison emergency cards and 211 cards were distributed to seniors on commodities day. d. Eileen Hinson-Active Adults at The REC -Active Adult operations began at The REC on May 4 -The chorus presented a patriotic program on May 21 followed by a catered lunch -On June 1 water aerobics began -On June 23, a Rangers game field trip is being planned -Additional future trips include Medieval Times, C.R. Smith Museum,movies and individual class trips when their respective classrooms are being utilized by summer programs 2 5. The meeting adjourned at 4:15 pm.
