Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:31 pm on December 6, 2016 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Carey Miller Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor Kay Blanding Isabelle Boyd Rhonda Madsen Pam Price Linda Troeger, Housing Authority Those not present: Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Holly Meister Maryann Waddell, GRACE 2. Guests: Introduced newest members to the board: Isabelle Boyd and Rhonda Madsen. 3. Consideration of minutes for October 4, 2016 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding: Christmas at The REC is beautiful, Santa is also at The REC. Mentioned upcoming trip to the Dallas Arboretum. 5. New Business a. Grapevine Housing Authority-Linda Troeger - Debra Wells, Executive Director of the Grapevine Housing Authority is retiring and they are in the process of replacing her. -The burned-out units will be ready by the end of December and ready for occupancy. 1 b. Trent Kelley-Recreation Manager -Summer aquatic positions are posted as well as lifeguard positions. -Pool hours will change Dec 19 through Jan 1, as open swim will start at 11 am instead of 4pm. -Youth baseball and softball is now open for registration. Parks and Rec now staffs the concession stand. PARD has purchased a mobile food trailer for events. -The REC is no longer hosting volleyball and basketball, as everything is now going through the Field House USA at the Grapevine Mills Mall. -Working with the Atkins Group on building our own Parks and Rec website. -Putting up shade coverings around the city at various locations, as well as at the outdoor play at The REC. -The computer lab projection screen will be installed soon. c. Eileen Hinson-The REC/Active Adults -Chorus performed on Veterans Day at The REC followed by BBQ lunch. Everything went very well. The chorus is also doing a Christmas program that they are taking on the road to multiple facilities as well as at The REC. The chorus has grown from 8 people to almost 50 members. -Have many December trips going on: Dallas Arboretum on Wednesday, Dec 14 and Thursday, Dec 15. Going to Prestonwood to see"The Gift of Christmas" on Saturday, Dec 10. Took a busful to see"The Littlest Wiseman"on Sunday, Dec 4. -Having the Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec 20 at Austin Ranch. -Staff will be attending safe driving training next week. -Collette Vacations has an upcoming trip to London in April with 6 people from The REC going. They will also be going on a Northern National Parks Tour in August 2017. -Computer registration starts on Monday, Jan 9. -Tax Aide will start on Wednesday Feb 1 from 8:30am to 4:30pm. d. Dick Guckel -Explained what FOGSAC (Friends of the Grapevine Senior Activities Center) is and what they have helped pay for. Explained who they receive money from and what the membership dues are. -Went into detail about the various computer classes offered and the 4 semesters with 60 to 100 people signed up for the classes every semester. e. Carey Miller -Empowering Seniors was held in October and had a record-setting attendance with over 2,400 people in attendance. Next year it will be held on Friday, Oct 6, 2017. 2 f. Duff O'Dell -City council meeting tonight. -Explained the current design for the new depot,hotel and parking garage. -Public Safety building should be completed by Spring 2017. 6.
