1. Call to Order
The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 pm on October 4, 2016 at
The REC of Grapevine.
The following members were present:
Dick Guckel, Chairperson
Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson
Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison
Carey Miller
Holly Meister
Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor
Kay Blanding
Pam Price
Linda Troeger, Housing Authority
Maryann Waddell, GRACE

3. Consideration of minutes for August 2, 2016 meeting

4. Citizen Requests
Kay Blanding: Exercise programs for Active Adults have been changing and a lot
has been happening with the classes.
5. New Business
a. Grapevine Housing Authority- Linda Troger
-Replaced a main water line at Starnes.
-Replaced 11 hot water heaters on Starnes.
-The units involved in the fire are ahead of schedule and should be occupied
by end of year.
-The Housing Authority owns the buildings and the director is city staff.

b. Maryann Waddell-GRACE
-Friends and Family program:
-Total clients: August 107/September 108
-Total commodities delivered: August 82/September 74
-Volunteer hours: August 71.5/ September(not totaled)
-Total Matches: August 24/September 25
-New Clients: August 3/September 3
-New Commodities Clients: August 2/ September 3
-New Matches(senior with volunteer): August 2/September 2
-New Volunteers: August 3/September 2
-Planning an October 10 picnic at Grapevine Public Housing. The event is
sponsored by First Financial Bank employees. They advocate against senior
fraud.
-Partnering with Women's Division for their annual "Christmas Spirit" event.
-Planning with Cannon Elementary for the"kid made"holiday cards for
Thanksgiving and Christmas. They are distributed on commodities day.
-GRACE is planning their yearly fundraiser the GRACE Gala. The date is
October 22. It is held at the Irving Convention Center. All are invited.
c. Duff O'Dell
-Grapevine tax rate is going down.
-National Neighborhood Night out is tonight.
-The T train will have a train depot and hotel on corner of Dallas and Main
along with a parking garage.
d. Eileen Hinson-The REC/Active Adults
-The REC is partnering with Baylor Scott and White.
-REC is hosting yoga class for cancer survivors.
-Baylor is running a Matter of Balance program that is a 4 week class that
meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings at The REC for active adults.
-Baylor will have a Breast Cancer Awareness table at The REC on
Saturday October 15.
-The REC is hosting a Halloween Spooktacular event Friday, October 7 from
6:30-8:30pm in the aquatics area.
-GrapeYard is Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22 at Oak Grove
Park.
-Early voting starts October 24 in Events Hall B at The REC.
-Explained what is going on with all the changes in the exercise classes along
with the new classes offered with certified instructors.
-Membership has grown and many classes are starting to fill up.
-Talked about monthly field trips.
-Meals on Wheels is doing a home meds program monthly for the active
adults.

-Assistance with open enrollment for Medicare will be held on October 18
hosted by Area Agency on Aging.
-Last month had an insurance meet and greet for participants to find out more
information on what is out there.
-SSA panel will start this month and will have a panel of 5 people who provide
services for seniors for question and answer discussion. This is a networking
group with the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce.
-(Duff)-Talked about Fire Department having a program for lockboxes for the
homes. The fire department would have access to a key for those who want or
have the need for one.

-Computer class registration for the active adults was last week, as there were
about 50 people who have signed up for this semester.
-There are 4 semesters of classes and this semester there are 15 courses
offered.
-The program has been running for 17 years and they now have about 30
instructors and assistants.
-FOGSAC is help paying for a drop down projector screen and projector for
the computer lab which will better assist the participants.
-Empowering Seniors is this Friday, October 7.
-Introduced newest member of the GSCAB board Holly Meister.
