Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 pm on August 2,2016 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Carey Miller Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Eileen Hinson, Active Adult Supervisor Kay Blanding Pam Price Karen Rice, Housing Authority Maryann Waddell, GRACE Those not present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Charles Burns 2. Guests: NO Guests 3. Consideration of Minutes for June 7, 2016 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding: So thankful and appreciative for the SeniorMovers program. They are always looking for volunteer drivers. Grapevine seniors are lucky to have this program. Very happy to have a mail basket at the Active Adult desk to put outgoing mail in. 5. New Business a. Duff O'Dell -Andy's Frozen Custard is coming to Grapevine. -Will replace some Christmas decorations around the city. -The Public Safety Building is on schedule, set to open late 2017. 1 b. Grapevine Housing Authority- Karen Rice - The residents affected by the fire have been taken care of; the one who caused fire has left the program and the smoke-involved residents have been moved to a different unit. Still working on fixing the units affected. -Local artists have donated paintings for the seniors who are living in the GHA. c. Maryann Waddell-GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: June 106/July 106 -Total commodities delivered: June 85 /July 81 -Volunteer hours: June 64/July-still totaling -Total Matches: June 26/July 25 -New Clients: June 0/July 0 -New Commodities Clients: June 0/July 0 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): June 2/July 0 -New Volunteers: June 3 /July 0 -Dropped off GRACEf it Buys coupons for the REC seniors and Euless Senior Center to promote GRACE's Euless store location. -Delivered groceries, wheel chairs, shower chairs, walkers, canes,jackets and nightgowns to homebound seniors and disabled as needed. -Helping seniors and disabled with food, financials and clothing as needed. -GRACE volunteers deliver commodities monthly to those clients who sign up for this program. -Mentioned the newsletter and information in it. -The donation station has extended the hours. -Helped with Feed Our Kids this summer. -Backpack donations and other school supplies. d. Trent Kelley-REC -Have three weeks of summer camps left. -Grapevine Lake is at conservation. The Vineyards Campground is trying to be fully operational. -End of week the lake park roads should be reopened. -The REC, Dove and Pleasant Glade pools are a drop off location for GRACE school supplies. -Hazy Meadows Park is getting new playground equipment. -5k race at The REC had 545 racers and went very well. e. Eileen Hinson—Active Adults -Been having volunteers of young men and women come and help with bingo and lunches. -Been on many field trips and have future ones planned; Lunch Bunch, Sharkarosa, Civil War Museum and Touring Lunch. Touring Lunch is where 2 there are up to 4 facilities we take a bus to that cater to seniors and obtain more information about their services. -Computer Class registration was on Monday, August 1, and there was a good response. -Monday August 8, Officer Scott Rhodes will be talking to seniors about fraud and scams. -The Senior Jamboree will be at Camp Carter again this year on Friday, September 30. f. Carey Miller -Empowering Seniors Expo will be Friday, October 7, 2016. g. Karen Rice -Asked where there is a place other than the once or twice a year shredding for papers and files. Suggestions were to contact Service Center or City Council to provide more opportunities. 6. The meeting adjourned at 4:20 pm.
