Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:35 pm on June 7, 2016 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Carey Miller Trent Kelley, Recreation Manager Eileen Hinson,Active Adult Supervisor Kay Blanding Pam Price Maryann Waddell, GRACE Those not present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Karen Rice, Housing Authority Charles Burns Paul Ernst 2. Guests: Dr. Mary Tang: Internal Medicine Housecall Doctor, would like to partner with Active Adults and GRACE as well as Grapevine Housing Authority. 3. Consideration of minutes for April 5, 2016 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests Kay Blanding: Dorothy Kritz passed away -Been receiving phone calls asking for social security number and stating they are IRS. (Eileen) Will get with the Grapevine Police and have them come talk about fraud and scams. 1 5. New Business a. Duff O'Dell -New businesses wanting to come to town -Tonight's council meeting there will be a presentation about the TRE -More apartments and retail to come on Dallas Road and Main Street -No Friday Night fireworks due to flooding, though there will be fireworks on the 4" of July. -Golf course is back in business. -Approved two dog parks; one in south Grapevine and one in north Grapevine. -Completed assessment on Animal Shelter. b. Grapevine Housing Authority-Pam Price - During the 26 March GHA meeting the Commissioners were updated on the progress of the restoration of the units damaged by fire at 315 N. Starnes St. Work is still ongoing on the units with bid packages for the restoration work to be released shortly. Other matters covered in the general session were routine. (Karen Rice) -A lot of apartments off Mustang are starting to get out of Section 8 voucher housing in the next few years which will affect many seniors in GHA. c. Maryann Waddell-GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: April 108 /May 107 -Total commodities delivered: April 85 /May 74 -Volunteer hours: April 80.5 /May-still totaling (63.5 as of now) -Total Matches: April 27/May 26 -New Clients: April 2/May 0 -New Commodities Clients: April 0/May 0 -New Matches (senior with volunteer): April 3 /May 1 -New Volunteers: April 4/May 2 -Feed Our Kids: Volunteers feed the kids every day, Parks and Recreation fed 300 plus kids today. -There is a reading program at GRACE on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. -Delivered groceries, wheel chairs, shower chairs, walkers, and canes, jackets, nightgowns to homebound seniors and disabled as needed. -Helping seniors and disabled with financials and clothing as needed. -Grace volunteers deliver commodities monthly to those clients who sign up for this program. - GRACE senior clients will be asked to come in to update their files for 2016. The homebound clients will receive a home visit to update files. 2 -GRACE volunteers repaired a wheelchair ramp and front step for a senior client. -GRACE continues to help the latest Grapevine fire victims with various needs. There are 20 families without homes from fire. -GRACE has not received any box fans or window units from TXU to hand out to those in need. d. Trent Kelley-The REC -Women's and men's locker room doors to be reversed to open to the outside. They are also fixing the grate in each locker room and they fixed it in the family changing room. -There is no capacity limit for Grapevine residents as they are seeing what the facility can handle. There is a limit for the non-residents though. -Working on parking lot situation for the Active Adults and handicapped. -Bobby Wise has retired from the Active Adult side, and Nick Garcia has moved on from the REC. -Patrece Coblentz has been added to the Active Adult staff. e. Eileen Hinson-Active Adults -There are three new staff members to the Active Adult side, they are working to obtain their CDLs. -Summer classes are going on special field trips due to class schedule, this includes jewelry, ceramics, oil painting and quilting. -2 positions are open for the board; interviews will start in a month. f Carey Miller -Empowering Senior Expo will be the first Friday in October, will keep posted with information as the date gets closer. 6.
