GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes of Tuesday April 5, 2016 Meeting The REC of Grapevine 1175 Municipal Way Grapevine, TX 76051 817.410.3465 1. Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:34 pm on April 5, 2016 at The REC of Grapevine. The following members were present: Duff O'Dell, City Council Member Liaison Charles Burns Trent Kelley, Recreation Facilities Manager Eileen Hinson,Active Adult Supervisor Karen Rice, Housing Authority Paul Ernst Kay Blanding Pam Price Maryann Waddell, GRACE Those not present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Carey Miller 2. Guests: None 3. Consideration of minutes for February 2, 2016 meeting Approved 4. Citizen Requests None 5. New Business a. Duff O'Dell - Council meeting tonight -Lots of events going on in Grapevine -Presentation at council meeting tonight about a large multipurpose sports facility possibly coming to Grapevine 1 b. Karen Rice-Housing Authority -During the 25 February GHA meeting the Commissioners were updated on the progress of the restoration of the units damaged by fire at 315 N. Starnes St. Fencing has been installed and clean-up/repair work has commenced. The family living in the adjacent unit was moved to S. Scribner St. and GRACE helped with a couch voucher. The family in the burned unit violated their lease and has been moved off the program. -The February Resident Advisory Board meeting included a short briefing from Chuck Voelker about the free tax service available at The REC during tax season. Several attendees stated there was no need to file taxes with a small fixed income. Chuck explained that filing would provide a regular verification that their Social Security number was not being used by anyone else. -There was no March meeting of the Housing Authority Commission. c. Maryann Waddell-GRACE -Friends and Family program: -Total clients: February 109/March 109 -Total commodities delivered: February 89/March 84 -Volunteer hours: February 75 /March-still totaling -Total Matches: February 23 /March 27 -New Clients: February 0/March 0 -New Commodities Clients: February 0/March 0 -New Matches(senior with volunteer): February 0/March 4 -New Volunteers: February 0/March 3 -Delivered groceries,wheelchairs, shower chairs, walkers, and canes, jackets, nightgowns to homebound seniors and disabled as needed. -Helping seniors and disabled with financials and clothing as needed. -Grace volunteers deliver commodities monthly to those clients who sign up for this program. -GRACE clients are MATCHED with a volunteer as needed. -GRACE will have Volunteer Appreciation breakfast this Friday. d. Trent Kelley-The REC -Welcome back Pam Price from hip surgery -Upcoming school bond election -Early Voting starts on Monday April 25 at the REC -Still working on getting parkifng spots for Active Adults for certain hours during day -Texas Trash Off and Epic Earth Day coming up -Mother/Son event coming up and is sold out already -Pickleball is offered at The REC on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3pm. Focus is for 55 and better. Nonresidents must pay a guest fee of$10. -April 23 and 24 the REC will have an Open House with free classes and a chance to come try it out. 2 -Monday April 25 The REC will have its 1 year anniversary celebration. e. Eileen Hinson—Active Adults - Aging Mastery Program, 10 week program had a great response and was well received -On March 29 the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution came to honor the Veterans at lunchtime -Tax Aide- 2 more Wednesdays to do taxes -Many field trips going on: baseball games, zoo, Perot and Bush trips -The REC will host Mah Jongg Tournament on May 9 6.
