Adjournment The next meeting of the Grapevine Heritage Foundation will be the Annual membership meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, 636 South Main Street, 2nd Floor Boardroom, Grapevine, Texas. CALL TO ORDER Chairman Curtis Ratliff called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. II. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were NO citizen comments. Any person who is not scheduled on the agenda may address the Historic Preservation Commission under Citizen Comments by completing a Citizen Appearance Request form. In accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Commission is restricted in discussing or taking action during Citizen Comments. 1 18 January 2017 January 18, 2017 Chairman Ratliff asked the board to view a video of Stephanie Meeks speaking at the 2016 National Trust for Historic Preservation Conference's Opening Plenary Session in Houston, Texas. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Balla Wright made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the October 19, 2016 meeting; Melva Stanfield seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Stinson, Franks, Hummer, Jensen and Perkins) Nays: None Absent: None Janet Perkins made the motion to accept the minutes as written from the November 10, 2016 meeting; Balla Wright seconded the motion, which prevailed in the following vote: Ayes: All (Ratliff, Stanfield, Wright, Stinson, Franks, Hummer, Jensen and Perkins) Nays: None Absent: None OLD BUSINESS Janet Perkins reported the Grapevine Heritage Foundation's membership was 199 active members with December donations of $1,100 and January 2017 of $2,000. Sue Franks suggested these donations be applied to the GHF scholarship fund. Melva Stanfield reported there were 791 visitors to Nash Farm in November 2016 with $3,565 in revenue and 613 visitors in December 2016 with $3,941 in revenue with a year-to-date total of $10,992. Cody Jolliff thanked Chairman Ratliff and the Franklin's for their help and experience in making the two day 2017 Butchering & Curing Workshop a success. He distributed his January 2017 Nash Farm Manager's Report and gave details on the new events planned such as the Parlor Sociables at $15 per ticket, he said they are great for older people who cannot stand for long periods to be able to take a seat and visit with others; other events planned were for an 1860's baseball team, ice cream socials and a three-day teachers institute. Balla Wright said the Victorian Christmas program had been on a miserable, bad weather day, but people did show up and participate; she thanked Frances Jensen for leading the outdoor tours. Paula Newman reported the stainless steel and copper finishes throughout the Palace Arts Center had been cleaned; and she hoped all had a chance to see the new carpets. She said the Palace had a good December with the Texas Tenors, Texas Harmony Choir and the Christmas movie sell-outs. The Palace will feature two Valentine events, one with the songs of Frank Sinatra and another featuring Kraig Parker. City Council Liaison Mike Lease said the Texas Tenors were impressed with the refurbishing of the Palace; Paula agreed saying the light board and the sound system were well received 2 18 January 2017 January 18, 2017 by the performers. She said bookings were "up" for weddings in the Palace and Lancaster venues. Chairman Ratliff said he had had questions from several friends asking why the Palace Theatre marquee was often dark, he hoped not for cost savings; he asked if possible to have the marquee lit, from dusk until 10 - 11 p.m. each evening, for the promotion of upcoming events. Sue Franks reported the GHF Speakers Bureau committee of Janet Perkins, Frances Jensen and herself were now ready for engagements; she had contacted Rotary and AMBUCS to be on their agendas and she hopes to have commitments by the next meeting. They had planned to give their presentation before the board, but will postpone due to today's time limitations. Balla Wright asked for Farm Manager Cody Jolliff to help promote the Foundation as part of the Speakers Bureau. NEW BUSINESS Chairman Ratliff said he would like for the Foundation to recognize Texas Independence Day. Sue Franks said the Historical Society had a great Sam Houston program they celebrate the with each year; Joe Ann Standlee said they would be glad to collaborate with the Foundation, the program will be March 2 at the Torian Cabin; she said they have had publicity in the Dallas newspapers as one of the few celebrating this special day in Texas history. Cody Jolliff announced the ALHFAM Annual Conference would be June 9— 13, 2017 at the Genesee Country Village and Museum in Mumford, New York. He said this year's theme will be "Breaking through Barriers" and invited the Foundation board members to attend. Chairman Ratliff told the group this year's National Trust Conference venue in Houston had really impressed him with Houston's progress in preservation. David Klempin announced the Foundation's February meeting agenda would be a bus tour of the Historic Township for the board to observe the progress made with the 6.5 million dollar investment now coming to completion. The six new build houses on East Wall Street, behind the Stone House on Northwest Highway, are now in progress and each valued at $650,000. Councilman Mike Lease noted a vacant corner lot in the Township is now selling for$249,000. LIAISON REPORTS Paula Newman for the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) reported the December meeting was the joint Mayor and City Council meeting. She said Executive Director Paul W. McCallum introduced new employees; Farm Manager Cody Jolliff received the Rookie of the Year; and it was announced the board had voted John Imaizumi to receive the 2017 Don Bigbie Legends of Tourism Award. David Klempin reported the Historic Preservation Commission had six cases on the December agenda; they are now working on amendments to provide more information to help the Commission in their reviews. 3 18 January 2017 January 18, 2017 Joe Ann Standlee said the Grapevine Historical Society is working on a revolving exhibit of the railroad in collaboration with the CVB's project linking the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, the High Railers model trains and the new TEX Rail. VI.
