GRAPEVINE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY BOARD Minutes of Tuesday February 5, 2013 Meeting Grapevine Senior Activities Center 421 Church Street Grapevine, TX 76051 817.410.3465 1. Call to Order The Grapevine Senior Citizens Advisory Board met at 3:30 PM on February 5, 2013 at the Grapevine Senior Activities Center. The following members were present: Dick Guckel, Chairperson Tena Burrell, Co-Chairperson Roy Stewart, City Council Liaison Amber Shattuck,GRACE Pam Price Carey Miller Paul Ernst Charles Bums Others present: Eileen Hinson,Assistant Senior Programs Supervisor Megan Atkins,Recreation Specialist: Senior Activities Center Those not present: Joetta King, Ex-offico, Housing Authority Kay Blanding Trent Kelley, CAC/SAC Supervisor 2. Consideration of minutes for December 4, 2012 meeting Approved 3. Citizen Requests No requests at the time. 4. New Business a. Roy Stewart - Last Monday there was a Facilities meeting for the council with the architect for the new CAC/SAC as they presented the council with basic facts on the design. - Tonight February 5 there is a council meeting to OK the design and proceed on. - A lot of areas for the senior citizens in the new design and plenty of room. 1 - There is an Aquatics area for seniors to use. - It will take longer to build due to keeping the CAC remaining open. - The front as of now will be transformed into the Aquatics area, as the entrance will be at the back of the building similar to the library. - There might be a designated time for the seniors to use the pool,just have to decide that down the road. - There will be a computer room like we have here at the SAC. - Voting will still be held at the CAC in May this year - The finished building is approximately at the end of 2015 - They have not found land for the new Public Safety building to be built yet. b. Amber Shattuck—GRACE - Francia Arrigan left GRACE 2 weeks ago. - Through GRACE Client Services and the Friends and Family Program we served 147 seniors with 876 services, accounting for$13,923.42 in financial assistance. Additionally, the Commodities program(monthly food delivery)served 90 seniors each month with food baskets. - There are 12 matches for the Seniors helping Seniors, as previously it was 8. The goal is to get at least 30 in the next couple of months. - Trying to set up a Resource Training Program for the volunteers a couple times a year. - Ralph is a handyman/tech who wants to help volunteer his services. - (Tena)Tarrant County Area Agency of Aging provides information for family caregivers. familycaregiversonline.com c. Eileen Hinson—SAC - SAC has a Facebook page as staff members are working on getting the word out. - Computer Registration for January 7 had 80 people sign up. March 11 is registration date for the next classes. - January 21 was Martin Luther King Jr Day and SCS was closed so there was a pizza and salad party. - Mardi Gras Dance is Saturday February 16, expecting between 80-100 people. $5 at the door and also asking for donations of children's socks and underwear to donate to GRACE. - Tax-Aide starts Wednesday February 6. The first two Wednesdays are already booked. Appointment time is from 8:30am-1:30pm. - (Roy) How much time for each person?Equals out to 20-25 minutes a person, as it just depends on the person's needs as it can vary. There are 20 appointments allotted for each Wednesday. d. Carey Miller - Commissioner Fickes is having his meeting this Friday,February 8 at 7:30am at the Court House in Hurst. He will go and bring updates for next meeting. 2 6. The meeting adjourned at 4:05 pm.
